The Many Adventures of Kili, Fili, and Lil' Kili

The Many Adventures of Kili, Fili, and Lil' Kili - In Detail, by 'Lil Kili

One day three young dwarves set out to find an adventure. The three brother's names were Kili, Fili, and Lil' Kili. They were full of fun and mischief, their pint sized ponies laden with packs full of food, water, cloths, bedding, and other useful things for their travelings. They came to the Green Dragon Inn by nightfall. Their room was funished in mahogany with carvings and writings all over it.  When they had washed up they came down for supper. They only had bread and no meat, which Lil' Kili promptly complained about. "What? No meat? What kind of an inn is this anyway?" Lil' Kili said with a tone of annoyance in his voice. "Calm Down" Fili said (he's the only one who had any sense) "This inn isn't as rich as other inns" Fili explained to his younger brother. "Well still!" Lil' Kili said "They could afford to give us a good meal.", and immediately started to pout. Fili just rolled his eyes and looked over at Kili, who was trying to make a spoon stay on his nose, but ended up poking himself in the eye. "DARN BLASTED SPOON!!!" Kili said crossing his arms over his chest and glaring at the spoon. Fili thought the whole thing was very funny and proceeded to laugh at Kili, until he was choking with laughter. Lil' Kil who saw the whole thing didn't and make a peep (because he was still mad) now joined in on the laughter, with Fili. Kili realized what was so funny and began to laugh too. The next morning they ate breakfast, with no meat, Lil' Kili finished first and went outside before the others. When Kili and Fili came out, Lil' Kili was riding the water wheel, pretending it was a pony. He looked over at them and then lost his balance and fell off the wheel. When he got to the bottom, he yelled at Fili and Kil and said "Look what you made me do!" Looking sullen and angry he jumped on his pony. Fili and Kili jumped on their ponies and they started on their way. Lil' Kili rode right up to Fili's pony, rammed it, and made Fili fall off."What was that for?" Fili asked in bewilderment. Kili got in the game and he and Lil' Kili started ramming each other's ponies. Then they jumped off their ponies and helped Fili up off the ground. Kili said "Do you want to play ramming with us?" Fili looked mad, "No! I do not!" he said angrily. "Bawk bawk bawk bawk!" Lil' Kili chanted, putting his arms under his armpits and flapping around like an upset hen. Fili looked annoyed, Kili looked amused, and Lil' Kili was spuddering and choking trying not to laugh. Finally Fili said "Fine. I'll play." But when Lil' Kili and Kili had their backs turned, Fili pushed them off a muddy slope. They were falling and tumbling down the hill, when Lil' Kili reached out and grabbed Fili, unhorsing him, and sent him rolling down the hill as well.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!

Most of you will be celebrating this holiday but hunting eggs today, eh? Well we dwarves celebrate a wee bit differently. Instead of hunting them, we throw eggs at each-other and try and smash them out of the air with our axes.

Happy Dwarven Easter!

Our Adventure

Our Adventure

Apparently, all the humans decided to make a movie of our adventures. We went to go see it in theaters last year, in dwarven attire of course, all the men, elf-folk, and wizards thought us very strange, coming to see our own movie after all, but whatever. Their opinion does not matter.

Have you picked up your copy yet?

Our Hobbit's Fingerless Gloves

This is Thorin writing, and I am going to share with you today a pattern for our hobbit’s gloves – the ones that he wears during the first part of our journey. I, of course, being a strong and hardy dwarf, prefer durable leather ones, but for all of the hobbits out there, this pattern is for you.

In the below picture, it may seem like the gloves are a deep metallic blue and have full length fingers, but if you watch this behind the scenes video (which I would highly recommend), you can see at about 59:38 their true color and shape.

     What you will need:

4 4 balls of Be Sweet Bamboo in the Dark Army color, or just three if you knit from both the outside and inside of each ball.

3 size 10 double pointed needles, or size necessary to obtain gauge.

· Stitch holder, or a pair of circular needles that you can slip stitches onto to hold them.

Gauge is 15 stitches and 25 rows in garter stitch for a 4” square when using size 10 needles.

Cast on 28 stitches to DPNS, and place marker.

Work 30 rows in garter stitch (knit one row, purl the next).

        Row 31: K3, *K2tog, K3, rep from * to end.

        Row 32: Purl across.

Row 33: K3, *Kfb, K3, rep from * to end.

Rows 34-43: Work in garter stitch.

Begin knitting side to side, and work eight more rows in garter stitch. Then join again at the beginning of the 41st row.

Rows 41-48: Work in garter stitch.

Slip all stitches to a stitch holder or circular needle pair. Pick up and knit 10 stitches evenly around thumb gusset, PM at the beginning of the row.

Thumb Rows 1-6: Work in garter stitch, beginning with a purl row and ending with a knit.

        Thumb Row 7: *P2, P2tog, rep from * to last 2 stitches, P2.

        Bind off knitwise.

Pick up and knit the 8 stitches nearest the thumb gusset; 4 from the front and 4 from the back. PM and join to work in the round.

Rows 1-7 Index Finger: Work as thumb

        Bind off knitwise.

Pick up the next 8 stitches; again, 4 from the front and 4 from the back. Work as Index Finger. Do this for the next 2 fingers.

Pick up and knit the last eight stitches – PM and join for working in the round.

Little Finger Rows 1-5: Work in garter stitch, beginning and ending with purl rows.

        Little Finger Row 6: *K2, K2tog, rep from * to last 2 stitches, K2

        Bind off purlwise.

Weave in ends. Blocking is not necessary.

Machine washable, lay flat to dry.

        Abbreviations:

K – knit

P – purl

K2tog – knit 2 together

P2tog – purl 2 together

Kfb – knit front and back

PM – place marker

DPNS - double pointed needles

I hope you enjoy this pattern!

Dwarvish Drawings

Good day, everyone.

This is Fili here. I finally managed to distract my brother long enough to put up a quick post on some sketches I've done.

These are just a few simple, childish drawings because I haven't gotten around to drawing much else with all our traveling, pony riding, orc fights, barrel riding, warg chases, dragon fighting, etc. Let me tell you, it can get rather tiring and take up a lot of your time.

Hobbiton

Erebor... Kili and I are both eager to see our Uncle's kingdom.

Mr. Baggins' encounter with the great Smaug.
This is a rough sketch of our Uncle Bofur.

A quick drawing of my little brother and I that I now use as a book marker.

I'll try my best to get in touch with you readers as soon as I possibly can. I am currently in the company of many Elves. I don't mind their company, though I'd prefer a different diet that's not so full of green food...

At your service always,
-Fili

Dwarf Runes

Dwarf Runes

Dwarf runes are used through-out Middle Earth.

The mark on Bilbo's door.

 Moon Runes on Thorin's map.

The rune stone that my mother Dis gave to me.

Gloin's axe has runes - which later Gimli finds in Moria, from Balin's tomb.

Dwalin's axes

Runes are easy to write, assuming you know the dwarfish alphabet. If you are not familiar with it then here are several charts to help you.
